Crews still searching Antioch Township lake for drowning victim

Dive teams are returning to Antioch Township's Loon Lake this morning to continue their search for the body of a 62-year-old man who is believed to have drowned after going for a swim off a boat yesterday afternoon. The man struggled to get back onto the boat, and a second man who was with him jumped in to help but also struggled to get back on. A passing boater was able to save the second man, but not the 62-year-old. Full story.

Jacobs grad makes Olympics

Evan Jager, a 2007 Jacobs grad, qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London by winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase finals Thursday in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials. He won the event in eight minutes and 17.40 seconds to finish ahead of Princeton graduate and NCAA champion Donn Cabral (8:19.81). Jager's time was the best by an American in 2012. Full story.

Starbucks in Schaumburg servers liquor

Starbucks at The Streets of Woodfield debuts it's new evening menu that includes wine, beer and entrees. It's the first location outside of the coffee giant's West Coast headquarters to boast the new concept. Full story.

One injured in East Dundee thrift store fire

One person was injured during a fire that caused extensive damage to the Community Thrift Store in East Dundee yesterday. Fire officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze, which ignited just before 1 p.m., and took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring under control. The injured person was taken to Sherman Hospital in stable condition, according to fire officials. Full story.

Power outage shuts down Midway Airport

A power outage on Midway International Airport's runways shut the airport down last night at about 8:45 p.m. Flights already in the air and headed for the airport were diverted with the help of FAA officials and no flights were able to take off. ComEd crews were on hand to assist the department of aviation, but as of about 11:30 p.m., crews were unable to figure out the cause of the outage. ComEd spokeswoman said the utility's systems were working properly and it was likely a malfunction in the airport's system. Full story.

Elgin man gets 10 more years for refusing to take the stand

A 21-year-old Elgin man convicted in the 2009 murder of a 22-year-old woman got 10 years added to his 35-year murder sentence for refusing to testify. Raul Perez-Gonzalez pleaded guilty in 2010 to the murder, and the deal was for a 20-year sentence if he took the stand or 35 if he didn't. Full story.

Elk Grove man sending 30,000 pizzas to soldiers

An Elk Grove Village man who is a retired Air Force master sergeant is shipping 30,000 deep dish pizzas straight to Afghanistan. Mark Evans founded Pizzas 4 Patriots to ensure the soldiers got the “best pizza on Earth,” and has loaded the thousands of pies into a semitrailer truck, which is being sent to bases in Afghanistan. The 'za should arrive just in time for Independence Day celebrations. Full story.

Weather

Partly sunny with a high of 78 degrees as you head out the door. Temperatures will increase to about 91 degrees this afternoon, but a couple of isolated thinderstorms will work its way into the area this afternoon and this evening, giving the area some of the rain it needs. Temperatures are expected to dip back to 72 degrees tomorrow. Full forecast.

Traffic

No problems to report early on the area highways, though motorists are urged to avoid westbound Touhy Avenue at Prospect Avenue and the Northwest Highway because of a sink hole that propped up overnight due to buckled roads. One lane gets through the area, so people should find alternate routes. Also, people flying out of Midway this morning should check their flights because of power problems overnight. The lights are back on, but the airport is trying to catch up. Full traffic.

Sox upend Yankees in battle of first place foes

Dayan Viciedo gave the White Sox a 4-3 lead with a three-run homer in the ninth inning, and Addison Reed held on for the AL Central-leading White Sox's sixth win in eight games over the Yankees by a final of 4-3. Full story.

Bulls select PG Teague in 1st round

The Bulls might have been thinking of Derrick Rose's injury last night when they selected point guard Marquis Teague with the 29th pick in the NBA draft. Teague averaged 10.0 points and 4.8 assists a game while helping Kentucky win a national championship during his freshman season last year. Teague, like Rose, played for John Calipari during his lone season in college. Full story.
