Severe thunderstorms roll through Chicago area

A day after near-record heat blanketed the Chicago region, severe thunderstorms rolled into the area Friday.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for the Chicago area in the morning and again late in the evening Friday.

A severe thunderstorm warning for southeastern DuPage, southern Cook, eastern Will and northeastern Kankakee Counties was set to expire at 10:45 p.m. Forecasters said a line of severe thunderstorms was capable of producing quarter size hail and winds in excess of 80 mph.
