New indoor soccer franchise to hold suburban tryouts

The job market for pro soccer players in the Chicago area is opening up.

Chicago’s new Major Indoor Soccer League franchise, which has a home at the Sears Centre Arena but is still working on a name, has announced dates for official team tryouts.

The first tryout will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Grand Sports Arena, 2350 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates. Players selected from that workout will join the team to participate in a friendly match against the Milwaukee Wave, the MISL defending champions, on Wednesday, July 18, in Milwaukee.

An additional two-day tryout will be held July 28-July 29 at Grand Sports Arena to determine the core roster for the 2012-2013 season, which begins in November.

The Chicago franchise will open its season on the road Nov. 11, with the home opener Nov. 18 at Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates.

Players interested in registering for tryouts must contact the club at (224) 698-9086.

“We are very excited to start developing a team that we can be proud of on and off the field,” said owner and COO Dave Mokry.

The Major Indoor Soccer League consists of eight franchises for the upcoming season: Baltimore, Chicago, Kansas City, Milwaukee, Norfolk, Rochester, Syracuse and Wichita.
