Myers in as BG’s girls athletic director
Mark Schaetzlein, the assistant principal/student activities at Buffalo Grove High School, has announced girls golf coach Matt Myers as the school’s girls athletic director.
Myers is replacing Marianne O’Shea, who retired following the school year.
Also, Matt Priban has been named as BG’s girls varsity volleyball coach, replacing O’Shea, who directed the program for the last six years.
Lacrosse: Vernon Hills standout athlete Tyler Amidei will play lacrosse for Augustana coach Kyle Hart.
A 5-foot-10, 165-pound defender, Amidei was an honorable mention All-North Suburban Conference selection this year for coach Brian Miller’s Cougars.
The four-year letter winner led Vernon Hills and ranked third in the state with 137 ground balls. He had a pair of goals and an assist as well.
Amidei also lettered three times in wrestling and once in football at Vernon Hills and plans to major in pre-medicine.
Augustana recently completed its first season of intercollegiate competition with an 8-6 record and the nation’s third-best scoring defense.
Water polo: The Northwest Chicago Water Polo club sent its first teams in club history to the Junior Olympic Zone qualifier.
The Northwest Chicago Water Club, coached by Tim Daniel (Conant), Joe Grzybek (Palatine), Chris Fetterman (Hoffman Estates) and Brian Newby (Fremd) placed tenth in the 18-and-under division and ninth in the 16-and-under division. NWC competed against teams from Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Michigan.
Girls basketball: Conant varsity girls basketball coach Dan Travers and former Cougar players will conduct 2012 Cougar Summer Basketball Camp.
The camp includes fundamental instruction, game competition and skill sessions designated to improve all players.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own basketball to class. The camp runs from Monday, July 2 to Friday, July 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ages for the camp are 9 to 13. There is no camp July 4.
