Glen Ellyn teens face vandalism charges

Two Glen Ellyn teens are facing multiple counts of criminal damage to property in connection with a rash of vandalism to vehicles and a home, DuPage County sheriff’s police announced Friday.

Patrick Kolp, 18, of the 22W500 block of Balsam Drive; and Matthew Kataura, 17, of the 3S100 block of Mulberry Lane, both have been charged with four felony counts of criminal damage to property and one misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property.

Sheriff’s police said in a written statement they received 14 reports of vandalism that happened across three towns. A pellet gun was used to shoot out about 30 vehicle windows and a residential window around the area of Butterfield Road and Route 53 in Glen Ellyn, Wheaton and Lombard.

Kolp and Kataura were taken into custody earlier this month after sheriff’s deputies on June 9 received information about a suspicious vehicle in the area. After doing a traffic stop of the vehicle, the deputies found “evidence of the involvement,” officials said.

Kolp and Kataura were released from jail after they each posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond. They are awaiting court dates.
