On-water thrills get bigger each year with Mundelein Park and Recreation District's Diamond Lake Wakeboard Spectacular.

This one-of-a-kind summer favorite featuring high-flying spins and tricks, returns Saturday, June 23 at scenic Diamond Lake Beach, 1016 Diamond Lake Road, between Route 60/83 and Lake Street/Route 45. The beach opens at 10 a.m. Competition begins at 11 a.m. and demos and ride-alongs run throughout the afternoon.

Learn about this cool sport from experts at Munson Ski & Marine, www.munsonski.com of Lakemoor, the event sponsor.

Root for your favorites, relax on the sand or take a swim. There is no charge to compete or use the beach. Ski boats will be on display and there will be special activities for kids. Beachgoers are encouraged to take a ride-along and try out a board.

Those wishing to compete can vie for prizes in judged divisions including wakeskate, beginner and intermediate. You can register in advance by contacting Munson Ski & Marine. Call (815) 363-5400 or email matt@munsonski.com to register in advance. Registrations will also be taken at the event.

Wakeboarding is a boat-towed sport involving water skiing, snowboarding and surfing. The Diamond Lake event brings together top boarders as well as novices to learn and showcase their talent.

Mundelein Park and Recreation District is offering a full lineup of water sport activities for youth and adults at Diamond Lake, including wakeboarding and wakesurfing. Details are available at www.mundeleinparks.org.

Diamond Lake Beach is open daily through Aug. 5 with lake swimming, soft sand, boat launch, picnic grove, waterfront playgrounds and a floating SportsPark. Affordable daily and season passes are available. Children ages 2 and younger are free every day with paid adult admission.
