On May 26, Lake County deputies received information that Hopkins had sexually assaulted the victim over several days prior to police being contacted, Kates said.

Deputies investigated the claim and turned over their findings to the Lake County State's Attorney's Office, which later filed charges, Kates said. Hopkins was arrested without incident on June 8, she added.

Kates would not release additional details about the case, and would not say if the victim knew Hopkins prior to the attack.

Hopkins is held in Lake County jail on a $300,000 bond. He is scheduled to be back in court June 28.
