District 63 seeks candidates to fill school board vacancy
East Maine Elementary District 63 is accepting applications until Monday, June 25, to fill a vacancy on the school board. School board member Steven Levy, who has been with the board since 1997, announced his resignation at the June 6 board meeting.
The candidate selected to fill the seat will serve until the April 2013 school board election, when Levy’s term is up. To be eligible for the school board, a candidate must be: a United States citizen at least 18 years of age; a resident of Illinois and of the district for at least one year preceding the election; a registered voter; be neither a school trustee nor a school treasurer; and not be a child sex offender.
School board members also must file an economic interest statement per the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act after Jan. 1, 2013. Candidates may be ineligible if they hold other elected offices or certain public-sector jobs.
Applications are available at the district office, the Stetina Educational Service Center, 10150 Dee Road, Des Plaines. Applications must be turned to school board secretary Deborah Piazza before 4 p.m. Monday.
