The unions are the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134 and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 2.

Stagehands are now allowed to do work that previously only electricians could do. That includes installing and operating the audio and lighting equipment in areas used for presentations and performances.

Electricians can continue the work they've done in exhibit booths and other areas.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the deal should reduce costs, create jobs and make McCormick Place more competitive in getting conventions.
