PEORIA, Ill. -- Gov. Pat Quinn marked Flag Day in Peoria with a ceremony honoring veterans and active service members.

The Journal Star reported Quinn on Thursday proclaimed the holiday in Illinois as "Larry `The Flagman' Eckhardt Day." Eckhardt has placed flags along funeral processions for more than 50 servicemen and women who were killed in action.

Quinn also talked about the Hiring Veterans Tax Credit, which would give companies a tax credit for hiring veterans.
