Chicago Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner says two other boys told lifeguards they'd been swimming with their friend but couldn't find him.

Lifeguards began to search and found the teen after sweeping the lake along North Avenue Beach in a line Tuesday afternoon.

The lifeguards tried to revive the boy, but authorities say he died late Tuesday at Lurie Children's Hospital.
