Delanie Olsen, a student at Grant High School, is among 170 Illinois students who have been named the Comcast Foundation's 2012 Leaders and Achievers. As such, they each will receive a one-time, $1,000 scholarship as a reward.
“We are so very proud to acknowledge these students with the Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship,” said John Crowley, Senior Vice President, Comcast. “It is an honor to be able to give young people an opportunity to prepare for the future, help increase their self-esteem while acknowledging their dedication to civic involvement and community service.”
The students were guests of honor Thursday, May 31 during a ceremony held at the Chicago History Museum with special guest speaker Art Norman from NBC5 Chicago.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarships are for high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership skills, academic achievement and a commitment to community service. The scholarship, sponsored by the Comcast Foundation, awards deserving students $1,000 for use towards college expenses. Students must have a grade point average of 2.8, attend a high school located in a community served by Comcast and they must be nominated by their school. Home schooled students are also eligible.
To date, Comcast has awarded more than $17 million to more than 17,000 Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners.
