Ingleside man sent to prison for 30 years

A Lake County judge has sentenced an Ingleside man to 30 years in prison for stabbing another man to death.

The News-Sun in Waukegan reported Judge George Bridges sentenced 44-year-old James Lewis on Tuesday. A jury convicted Lewis of murder in the 2010 death of 19-year-old John Herres of Riverwoods. Both prosecutors and Lewis’ defense attorney said Lewis has been an alcoholic. Prosecutors say he was drunk at the time of the murder.

Lewis offered “deepest sympathy” to Herres’ family and asked the court to “recognize that this was a disease of alcoholism.” He faced between 20 and 60 years in prison.

Herres was a swimming instructor and lifeguard at Central Lake YMCA in Vernon Hills and also was a student at Libertyville High School.
