Join Good Shepherd's Flock at Barrington Relay for Life

Barrington, Ill. – Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is sponsoring the Shepherd's Flock team for the Barrington Relay for Life event on June 8. The team is raising money to fight cancer and will be walking all night to support the American Cancer Society. The event will run from 6 pm on June 8 until 6 am on June 9 at the Barrington High School Stadium at 616 W Main St. in Barrington, Illinois.

Last year, Barrington's Relay celebrated the theme Barrington's Biggest Birthday Party, while organizers set the world record for the most cupcakes on a display tower exhibiting a cupcake tower holding 16,478 cupcakes raising funds for the American Cancer Society's Illinois division. This year, Barrington's Relay's theme continues to help celebrate a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

This year, Good Shepherd hosted multiple fundraising events leading up to the Relay event. One specific fundraiser included a combined car wash with a hot dog and bake sale to help raise money. Volunteers graciously assisted in hopes of helping the American Cancer Society save lives.

Kathy Hendrix, the team captain of Shepherd's Flock noted the positive impact Relay for Life has on the Good Shepherd staff, those personally touched by cancer and the community.

"Relay for Life is a touching event that brings the community together,” she said. “It's a chance for staff members to celebrate the gift of life with their patients."

The American Cancer Society held its first Relay for Life event in 1985. Since then, the event has expanded to more than 5,100 sites and has raised $3.86 billion to fund cancer research, prevention and treatment. The Barrington Relay is one of over 200 Relay events held in Illinois and has registered over 700 participants and 90 teams this year. Last year the Barrington event rose over $350,000. Good Shepherd and the Shepherd's Flock team have participated for over a decade and raised thousands of dollars in donations.
