Chamber scholarship winner

Marian Central Catholic High School senior Gerald McMaster has won a $500 scholarship from the Island Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Applicants had to complete two essays, have three references, list their student activities in high school, awards, and work with an Island Lake chamber member for at least six months. McMaster worked with Karen Luebbers, Island Lake’s recreation department administrator, as a night guard and beach house attendant. In school, McMaster was a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and a kickoff mentor program. He received a citizenship award, Suburban Christian Conference academic award, and Illinois High School Association awards in baseball and basketball. McMaster plans to attend Central Michigan University in the fall, where he received the President’s and Superior Scholar Award and Board of Trustees Academic Honors Scholarship.
