Historic ads stolen from U of Illinois library
URBANA — Police say someone has stolen a handful of historic United Negro College Fund advertisements from a display at the University of Illinois.
The three items were stolen sometime between May 1 and May 8 from a locked display case in a tunnel that runs between the university’s Main Library and Undergraduate Library. Campus police told The News-Gazette that surveillance photos show a young man walking through the area on two occasions. Officers believe he may have been involved.
The stolen items include a photo, a public-transit signboard and a poster. They were on display from the United Negro College Fund’s archives.
Campus police Lt. Roy Acree said investigators do not believe the thefts were racially motivated.
