Charity car show in Barrington seeks volunteers

A charitable exhibition of rare classic and exotic motor vehicles this summer will be open to the general public for the first time in four years, and its organizers are seeking more than 150 volunteers to help work the event.

The sixth annual Barrington Concours d’Elegance will be July 14 and 15 at Makray Memorial Golf Club on Northwest Highway, in support of the Barrington Area Conservation Trust.

The Concours will feature 80 of the world’s finest vehicles on the fairways of the golf course.

For the first time since 2008, the event will be open to the public all day Sunday, July 15, for only $20 per person, free for kids 12 and younger and military personnel.

The Concours weekend will begin Saturday, July 14, at Wickstrom Auto Group in Barrington with a Fun-Run Road Rally featuring a 40-mile drive through the Barrington-area countryside, followed by a picnic lunch. Classic cars are welcome, but not necessary to participate.

On Sunday, the exhibition itself will open at 10 a.m. This year’s event features an Italian theme, but vehicles of all makes and models will be represented.

Participants can vote for their favorite in the People’s Choice balloting and learn who will win Best in Show at the awards ceremony at 2 p.m.

Following the awards will be a private cocktail hour and gala dinner to further benefit the Barrington Area Conservation Trust, which works to preserve and protect open space in the region.

Tickets for the Saturday Fun-Run Road Rally are $75 per vehicle and the fee includes as many people as will fit in your car.

General admission tickets for the Sunday Concours are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show. VIP tickets are $75 in advance, $85 on the day of the show, and include lunch, plus two drink tickets.

The charity gala dinner Sunday evening costs $200 per person.

Volunteers will receive free admission to the Concours and a free T-shirt. They should register on the Concours website, barringtonconcours.org/volunteer.html.
