Judge to rule on Baker motion:

By

Closing arguments were made Friday on a defense motion to bar in Lake County circuit court statement made by Daniel Baker regarding the April 1, 2010 murder of Marina Aksman of Vernon Hills. Baker, 23, of Deerfield, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Aksman, 50, who was beaten in her home with a baseball bat. Assistant States Attorney Pat Fix argued Baker’s rights were not violated and a confession he made to police on videotape describing Aksman’s murder in 2010 was voluntary. Defense attorney Edward Genson contends Baker was under duress and should have had a lawyer present. A judge will rule June 18 whether that evidence should be admissible in court.
