Shedd staff to stay in locked aquarium during NATO

Veterinarians and other staff members are planning a sleepover at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium when it's closed because of the upcoming NATO summit.

Earlier this month, authorities announced that the Shedd, the Adler Planetarium and the Art Institute of Chicago will be closed Saturday through Monday because of their proximity to the summit site and the protest route.

But Shedd officials say they're worried about being able to get to the aquarium quickly if needed, especially considering that one of the Pacific white-sided dolphins is scheduled to give birth soon.

So spokesman Roger German says more than 50 Shedd staffers plan to lock themselves inside with sleeping bags and sack lunches so they'll be nearby if the baby dolphin arrives or another emergency comes up.
