Last day for online comments for Algonquin plan

Today is the last day Algonquin residents can give their input online for the planning of the downtown business district.

Residents can visit the project’s website at landvision.com/algonquindowntownplan and take a 10-minute survey to rate their satisfaction with things like shopping, dining, traffic and more. They can also use an interactive map to make specific comments about land use, pedestrian/bicycle circulation, streetscape safety, vehicular access and physical conditions.

The study is being conducted by consultants from Land Vision Inc., which has offices in St. Charles, and is being funded through a $90,000 federal grant the village received from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

The village has been encouraging residents’ input via iPad kiosks at several downtown businesses where people can fill out the online survey, said Algonquin Village Planner Ben Mason. The consultants also have interviewed downtown business and property owners, he said.

Sometime later this spring or in early summer the consultants will hold a public planning workshop, Mason said. “They will present their initial findings and feedback, start to discuss some of the issues and topics that arise, and evaluate some opportunities for making improvements downtown,” he said. “That’s the next opportunity for public comment.”

The final downtown planning study is expected to be ready sometime this fall, Mason said.
