ALS Charity Game highlights Boomers exhibition schedule

The Schaumburg Boomers will take on the ALS Chicago North Men’s Senior Baseball League Strikers in a game to support the Les Turner ALS Foundation Friday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Boomers Stadium in the first of a 10-game exhibition schedule for the Boomers.

With 100 percent of the ticket sales going to benefit the Les Turner ALS Foundation, tickets for the Diamond Dare Game May 4 are on sale now for $10 at the Boomers Box Office or by phone at (847) 461-3695.

All other Boomers Exhibition games at Boomers Stadium, with the exception of a special $5 Kids Day Friday, May 11, are open to the public and free.

Since 1977, the Les Turner ALS Foundation has been a leader in research, patient care, and education about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, and other motor neuron diseases.

The foundation serves more than 90 percent of the ALS population in the Chicago area. The foundation is also one of the nation’s largest independent ALS organizations and has raised more than $45 million to fight Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Les Turner, a Chicago area businessman, was diagnosed with ALS in 1976. Frustrated by the lack of information and research on ALS at the time, he and his family and friends started the foundation in 1977, just a year before Les’ death at age 38.

The founders wanted ALS patients and families of the future to have the resources, support, and hope for a cure unavailable to Les. To learn more, visit www.lesturnerals.org.
