Two women accused of assaulting ex's new flame

Breaking up might be hard to do, but police say it was easy for Caitlyn R. Knight to break into her ex-boyfriend's St. Charles apartment early Sunday morning.

Police said Knight, 21, of Elburn, still had the key to the apartment on South 14th Street when she and her friend, Octavia L. Williams, 23, of Maple Park, entered and beat up the man's new girlfriend.

The 19-year-old from St. Charles suffered scratches, bruises and contusions and was treated and released from Delnor Hospital in Geneva, St. Charles Police spokesman Paul McCurtain said.

Police were called to the apartment at 4:19 a.m. Sunday when a man reported two people had entered his apartment and bedroom and were beating his girlfriend, McCurtain said.

McCurtain said Knight had dated the 28-year-old St. Charles man for about a month and the new girlfriend had been with the man for about a week. Williams was not armed, but Knight had a set of keys she was using to try and injure the victim, McCurtain said.

McCurtain said when the man called police Knight and Williams ran out the front door and drove off in Knight's blue Ford Taurus. The pair were later arrested a few blocks from Knight's residence in the 4N200 block of Citation Lane.

Both are charged with two counts of home invasion, and the felonies carry a six- to 30-year prison term if convicted. Probation is not an option.

Knight was being held on $100,000 bail, and she must post $10,000 to be free while her case is pending.

Williams was being held on $75,000 bail and must post $7,500 to be released while her case is pending.

Both are due in court May 9.
