2 barns lost in Monday morning fire

Firefighters battled wind as well as flames at a barn fire Monday morning near Lily Lake.
The fire, reported at 9:15 a.m., destroyed two barns and damaged a third at 6N511 Route 47, according to Assistant Chief Tate Haley of the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District. Fire department investigators haven't determined the cause of the blaze, but it does not appear to be suspicious, Haley said.
The structures were unoccupied, wood-frame former dairy barns. The main barn, which was destroyed, was two stories tall, the others, one story.
"We also had a three-acre field fire we were contending with at the same time," Haley said. Sparks from the barn fire blew into that old cornfield.
It took two hours to put out the fires. No one was injured.
The district was assisted by 18 departments including those from Bartlett, Burlington, Cortland, Geneva, Hampshire, Huntley, Maple Park, South Elgin, St. Charles, West Chicago and Winfield.
Route 47 was shut down at Silver Glen Road.
The National Weather Service Monday issued a Red Flag Warning for several counties in Illinois, including Kane and DeKalb, to refrain from outdoor burning.
The weather service says a combination of strong winds and low relative humidity elevated the risk for fires to spread rapidly.
