It’s all good for Abads, Lake Zurich
It was all Abad on a good day for Lake Zurich’s girls soccer team.
Vanesa Abad notched her second hat trick of the week — giving her 9 goals for the season — as she led the Bears to a 4-2 win over Plainfield East as part of the Pepsi Showdown at Olympic Park in Schaumburg on Saturday.
Catalina Abad added a goal and an assist for Lake Zurich (5-3), while keeper Eleanor Daleske stopped 8 shots. Nicole Rasiarmos had 2 assists.
Warren 2, Payton 0: At Schaumburg’s Olympic Park, Kelly Ditmars and Katlyn McDermitt scored for the Blue Devils in the Pepsi Showdown game.
Nicole Villarreal had 2 saves in notching the shutout.
Grant 6, Woodlands Academy 1: At Zion-Benton, Marissa Allen scored 3 goals, as the Bulldogs went 2-1 on the day to finish second in the tournament.
Sophie Finerty added a pair of goals for Grant (5-6-1), and Alyssa Wilhelm had 3 assists. Kyra Schmidt also scored. Kassie Stimpson assisted on a pair of goals, and Jenna Pecorini had an assist as well.
Grant 9, Richmond-Burton 0: At Zion-Benton, Kyra Schmidt had 2 goals and 2 assists for the Bulldogs, Jenna Pecorini also scored twice, and Kassie Stimpson contributed a goal and 2 assists.
Grant’s other goal scorers were Vanessa Foreman, Jessica Jones, Nina Deligio and Alyssa Wilhelm. Foreman, Jones, Mallory Gizowski and Marissa Allen also had assists.
Zion-Benton 2, Grant 1: At Zion-Benton, the host Zee-Bees notched the only goal of the second half.
Marissa Allen scored for Grant off an assist from Mallory Gizowski. Bulldogs keeper Anna Road made 5 saves.
Vernon Hills 2, Glenbrook North 0: Kristen Guglielmi set up Kaitlin Gramins’ first-half goal and tallied herself after halftime of the Cougars’ nonconference home match.
Courtney Corrado assisted on Guglielmi’s goal.
