Trout fishing starts Saturday at Cook County lakes

Trout season opens Saturday at three lakes in the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

District officials announced Monday that they are stocking the lakes with about 3,000 pounds of rainbow trout this week.

The lakes are Axehead and Belleau in Park Ridge and Sag Quarry-East in Lemont.

A valid Illinois sport fishing license with an inland trout stamp is required for anglers 16 and older. There’s a five-trout-per-day limit with no size restrictions.

No license is required for Illinois residents with Illinois ID cards showing a Class 2 or Class 2A disability or with veterans disability cards. No license required for active duty troops home on leave.

A free guide to fishing in forest preserve waters is available online and at district nature centers.
