Mt. Prospect meeting on emerald ash borer treatment

Mount Prospect officials will present information on emerald ash borer treatment from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at the Public Works Emergency Operations Center, 1720 W. Central Road.

Staff from the Public Works Department Forestry/Grounds Division will discuss some of the many options now available for property owners who want to treat ash trees with insecticides in an attempt to prevent infestation.

“EAB finds in Mount Prospect have been increasing exponentially in the last year,” said Forestry/Grounds Superintendent Sandy Clark. “EAB has already killed millions of ash trees in the United States and is now widespread throughout much of Illinois. For several years the village has been urging owners of ash trees to either budget for removal/replacement of their ash trees within the next few years, or begin treating routinely with an approved insecticide.”

Though staff will not recommend any particular products or vendors, they will review factors to consider when deciding whether and how to treat trees. Information is also on the village website mountprospect.org.
