Hanover Township opens satellite office in Elgin

Hanover Township recently opened a second satellite location that officials hope will increase accessibility to services for its nearly 100,000 residents.

Local dignitaries gathered Thursday evening at the new community relations office in Elgin for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house.

“We’ve always worked very well for the Tri-Villages, but we’ve heard from residents that there’s always been a disconnect with people who live in Elgin,” Hanover Township Supervisor Brian McGuire said.

Officials said the new office, located at One American Way, will better serve Elgin and Hoffman Estates residents who won’t have to make the trip to the main office in Bartlett or the Astor Avenue branch in Hanover Park.

McGuire said the two communities shouldn’t be overlooked, especially considering 22 percent of Elgin residents live in Hanover Township and most new growth is taking place in Hoffman Estates.

“The location is also strategic because there are population pockets nearby that take advantage of township services,” McGuire said.

The township is considering this a pilot program and leasing the roughly 1,850-square-foot space for two years.

No additional staff was hired to man the new office, McGuire said. Instead, existing department employees will rotate locations on designated days.

In Elgin, welfare services are available Mondays, followed by the community health nurse and tutoring Tuesdays, the senior social services case worker Wednesdays and the assessor’s office Fridays.

Family counseling, senior clubs and activities will be held multiple nights.

Community Relations Manager Tom Kuttenberg said that to get the word out, the township is utilizing the resident newsletter, meeting withhomeowners groups and next week will distribute fliers to Elgin Area School District U-46 schools.
