Addison graphics company printed oversized ballots

ROCKFORD — Winnebago County wants to be reimbursed by an Addison graphics company that produced oversized ballots that caused problems all over Illinois during Tuesday's primary election.

County Clerk Margie Mullins tells the Rockford Register Star that the county shouldn't have to pay for thousands of ballots made by ABS Graphics. And Mullins says the county should be compensated for the hours staffers spent dealing with problems created by ballots that were slightly too big to fit into scanning machines.

In all, about 25 of Illinois' 102 counties reported problems with oversized ballots. Other election officials say they'll also explore recouping the additional expenses from firms they contract with to handle elections.

ABS has acknowledged sending out ballots that were slightly too big for the machines and has apologized.
