DuPage Dist. 6 Democratic incumbent wins

The only Democratic DuPage County Board member with a primary contest was victorious on Tuesday night.

With all 110 precincts reporting, unofficial results show District 6 incumbent Dirk Enger with 2,661 votes. Newcomers Lauren “Laurie” Nowak and Dave Barry received 3,324 and 2,481 votes, respectively. The fourth Democrat in the primary race, Terrell Barnes, received 1,977 votes.

The three winners will face a trio of Republican opponents in the general election.

During the campaign, 24-year-old Nowak of Bartlett suggested that board members be paid an hourly wage to ensure that county board members are spending enough hours on county-related business to justify their annual salary. None of the Democrats in the District 6 primary race said the $50,000-a-year pay for county board members should be reduced.

District 6 includes all or parts of Aurora, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Naperville, Roselle, St. Charles, Warrenville, Wayne, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield.
