Cary-Grove 2, Schaumburg 0 (9 inn.): Managing just 1 hit in nine innings, the Trojans (2-1) were able to tack on 2 runs in the ninth for 2-0 win over the Saxons in nonconference play. Cary-Grove pitcher Matt Dunlap recorded 11 strikeouts while he and Matt DiCicco allowed just 2 hits. Nick Beyer also drove in a run.
Westminster Christian 3, Boylan 2: The Warriors (2-1) came away with a 3-2 win over Boylan behind 2 hits apiece by Ryan Perez, Will Woodhouse and Chase Woods, as all of the Warrior runs came in the third. Perez also threw 4 innings of relief and gave up just 1 run on 1 hit, walking just 2 and striking out 9.
Hampshire 3, Dekalb 3 (10 inn.): Darkness forced the Whip-Purs’ first game of the season to end in a 10-inning tie, but Mike Laramie, Jake Kuhn and Eddie Mazur all registered doubles before the lights went out. Shane Hernandez and Danny Keller pitched 5 innings each.
West Chicago 9, St. Edward 1: West Chicago knocked the Green Wave (0-3) around by scoring 5 runs in the third, giving St. Edward pitcher Jack Tierney (5 IP, 5H, 7 ER, 6 BB) a rough afternoon on the mound. Tyler Tomaka scored the only Green Wave run on a sacrifice fly.
Streamwood 6, Ridgewood 2: Alex Morrow went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and a stolen base to help lead the Sabres (2-0) to a win over Ridgewood. Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle and Mike Smith were 2-for-3 with an RBI each.
Conant 3, Crystal Lake South 2: Held scoreless through six, the Gators put together a furious rally in the seventh scoring 2 runs but it wasn’t enough in a nonconference loss to Conant. Max Meitzler (2B) accounted for the Gators’ only extra base hit.
