Brin wins Lake County court clerk's race

The second in command of the Lake County Circuit Clerk's office Tuesday won the right to compete for the top job in November.

In a close race that centered on the use of technology in the clerk's office, Keith Brin, a Highland Park attorney and the office's current chief deputy, defeated Round Lake attorney Gerald Dietz for the Republican nomination to succeed retiring clerk Sally Coffelt.

With all 415 precincts reporting, Brin received 23,763 votes, or 51 percent, while Dietz received 22,520 votes, or 49 percent.

All results are unofficial.

Brin will face Democrat Cynthia Pruim Haran who ran unopposed on Tuesday, in November's general election.
