Wehrli defeats incumbent Schultz, challenger in forest preserve Dist. 5

Naperville’s Mary Lou Wehrli defeated incumbent Carl Schultz of Aurora and fellow Republican challenger Charles “Charlie” Schneider of Naperville in the GOP primary for the District 5 seat on the DuPage County Forest Preserve Commission.

With all 116 precincts reporting, Wehrli took about 48 percent of the vote, while Schultz got about 31 percent and Schneider gained about 21 percent.

In the November general election Wehrli will face Democrat Dennis Clark, who ran unopposed Tuesday in his party’s primary. The winner’s term will either be 2 or 4 years. The length will be determined by lottery after the November election, in which all seats are open.

District 5 includes all or parts of Aurora, Lisle, Naperville and Warrenville.
