Tuscan Chocolate Torte

2 cups flour

1 stick butter, softened

1 cup sugar

¼ teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

3 eggs

Filling

6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips

1¼ cups milk

3 eggs

2 tablespoons flour

½ cup sugar

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter a torte pan.

For the dough: Mix flour, butter, sugar, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add 3 eggs. Mix until dough is soft to roll out.

For the filling: In a sauce pan over medium heat, melt chocolate chips in milk.

In a separate bowl, beat 3 eggs; add flour and sugar and whisk to combine. Add gradually to hot chocolate; stir until thick on medium heat. Let cool.

To assemble: Roll out two-thirds of the dough and fit into bottom and up sides of prepared pan; crimp edge. Pour in chocolate mixture.

Roll out the remaining dough, cut into strips to create a lattice top crust. Bake 45 minutes. If top is not golden brown, adjust temperature a little higher. Cool and dust with powdered sugar and cut into thin slices.

Serves 10.
