Chicago Wolves blanked by Charlotte Checkers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Chicago Wolves’ three-game winning streak and their brief hold on first place in the Midwest Division of the AHL ended abruptly with a 4-0 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday.

Goaltender Mike Murphy stopped 22 shots as he snapped the Wolves’ three-game winning streak.

The Wolves (33-23-2-3) trail the Checkers by a point in the division race.

After a scoreless first period, the Checkers (32-20-3-5) opened the scoring when Zach Boychuk’s shot deflected off teammate Nicolas Blanchard past goalie Eddie Lack (17-16-3), who made 42 saves.

The Checkers added some insurance with a power-play goal on a rebound by Zac Dalpe less than three minutes later and scored twice in the third period to ice their victory.
