Car strikes, kills West Chicago teen

A 16-year-old girl was struck and killed by a car Friday night in West Chicago, authorities said Saturday.

The victim was identified by the DuPage County coroner’s office as Eriana Vigil of the 800 block of East Grand Lake Boulevard in West Chicago. Her preliminary cause of death was massive traumatic injuries, officials said.

Police said the victim was hit at 9:11 p.m. at Route 59 and Pine Street near downtown. She was taken to a hospital where she died.

The man driving the car that hit her “returned to the scene after realizing the damage to his car was possibly the result of a collision with a person,” according to a police news release.

Police did not release the driver’s identity or comment on whether he will be charged. The case remained under investigation and further details weren’t immediately available.
