Fremont students taste-test fruits, veggies

Margaret Van Duch/District 79

Exotic foods may not have been on the “fav” list for some of the Fremont Middle School students who participated in a taste testing by their food service provider, Quest Food Management Services, but they sampled them anyway.

Quest introduced the students to colorful bell peppers, mango, papaya, kiwi, jicama, and edamame, not to mention an assortment of herbs. The students were brave about trying the unusual foods.

“I’ve never tried radishes, papaya, or jicama. But I loved the bell peppers and kiwi,” said Taylor Pullen, 13.

Seventh-grader Mackenzie Linane said, “I’m not a big fan of these beans (jicama).”

On the other hand, David Bailey, 14, said he liked the jicama.

Quest plans to introduce the fruits and vegetables that students tried during lunch to see how the rest of the student body receives them.
