Cook Memorial officials seek candidates for board vacancy

The Cook Memorial Public Library District is looking for someone to fill a recently vacated position on the board of trustees.

Candidates should be interested in serving the Libertyville-based library district, have time to devote to the library and be interested in improving library services.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, registered voters, and residents of the library district.

The district includes Libertyville, Vernon Hills, Green Oaks, Mettawa, Indian Creek, an unincorporated area north of Libertyville and a portion of Mundelein.

Library board meetings are held in the evening on the third Tuesday of every month. Meeting locations alternate between the Cook Park Library in Libertyville and the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills.

In addition to the monthly meeting, trustees are expected to attend various committee meetings and specially scheduled meetings and events.

The vacancy was created when Trustee Mary Ann Phillips resigned Feb. 21. She had to leave because her sister was hired as an employee, and people related to library board members cannot work for the library, according to a district rule.

The appointee will complete the unexpired portion of Phillips’ term, which ends in spring 2013.

Applications for this volunteer position will be available at the adult reference desks at both libraries. Applications also are available on the bookmobile and at cooklib.org.

Completed applications must be mailed to the administration department at the Cook Memorial Public Library District, 413 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, Ill. 60048 by March 19.

For more information, call Director Stephen Kershner at (847) 362-2330, ext. 1100.
