New Avon Township trustee picked:

Round Lake Area Unit District 116 board member Douglas Raul Williams has gained a second post as a public official. The Hainesville resident was approved as an Avon Township trustee at a special meeting Monday night. Williams fills the seat of Grayslake resident Chris Ditton, who was appointed as Avon’s assessor on Christmas Eve. The township used various means to advertise the need for a trustee to replace Ditton. “We strived for the most open and transparent appointment system,” said Supervisor Sam Yingling. “Everyone who applied had their unique qualifications and we thank those who submitted applications. I wanted the trustees and the township clerk to take the leadership role in selecting a consensus candidate. I agreed to support the majority decision.” Williams gained unanimous support from Yingling and three trustees on the five-member township board.
