District 59 school board fills vacancy

Elk Grove Township Elementary District 59 school board Monday night appointed a Mount Prospect resident to fill a board seat left vacant by the resignation of President Thomas Dowd. Seana McPherson, a parent of two students attending Ridge Family Center for Learning in Elk Grove Village, was chosen from among five candidates who applied for the post, District 59 spokeswoman Betsy Boswell said. Dowd’s term expires in 2015, but McPherson will serve only until the next election in April 2013. She will be sworn in March 12. School board Vice President Sharon Roberts will continue to lead the board until the board’s reorganization in April when officers are elected, Boswell said. McPherson has been an active volunteer at Ridge school. She previously co-chaired the board of directors of Trinity Preschool in Mount Prospect from 2003 to 2010.
