Layoffs and operational cuts will be discussed by Lake Villa District 41 board members during their bimonthly board meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Polumbi Middle School gymnasium at 133 McKinley Drive. District officials said they are facing a budget deficit about $1.4 million for the 2012-13 school year, and that cuts will need to be made to make ends meet. Superintendent John Van Pelt said the district needs to slash about $1 million in salaries and an additional $400,000 in operational expenses over the next two years. Van Pelt said the staff cuts will be across the board, ranging from some teachers to custodians, administrators, teacher aides, office workers and others. Van Pelt said a reduction in enrollment has been the root cause for the budget shortfall.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
