Glendale Heights man accused of molesting student

A Glendale Heights man who gives music lessons at his home has been indicted on charges he molested a 14-year-old student, prosecutors said Wednesday.

John Hammond, 55, remained in the DuPage County jail, where he’s been held on $200,000 bail since his Jan. 27 booking, authorities said.

Hammond, of the 1200 block of Pleasant Drive, is accused of molesting a 14-year-girl on several occasions since January 2011 while acting as her music instructor. Authorities said he gave the victim private music lessons at his home and also communicated with her online.

On Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Hammond on charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault, grooming and indecent solicitation of a child. The most serious charge is punishable by up to seven years in prison, prosecutors said. Hammond was initially charged in January after an investigation by police and the DuPage County Children’s Center. His arraignment is Monday in front of Judge George Bakalis.
