Car lands on top of another in Libertyville

A car came to rest on top of another vehicle in a multivehicle crash in Libertyville Friday afternoon.

It occurred just after noon in the southbound lanes of Route 45, just south of Peterson Road, when two cars were approaching the scene of an earlier, minor two-car crash. The driver of a black Lexus came upon the crash and slammed on his breaks. A green car behind him didn't stop, and the car rode under the one in front, said Lt. Derl Sarby of the Libertyville Fire Department.

“They didn't see the accident. It's a high-speed road,” Sarby said. “I've been doing this a long time, and I don't remember something like that.”

The two drivers in the second crash were injured and taken to the hospital, while no injuries were reported in the first crash, he said.

The injuries were described as minor.

Sarby noted that an witness to the second crash who identified himself as a Marine had pulled his truck up behind the scene of the first crash so they wouldn't be hit by oncoming traffic.
