Painted horses — proud, silly or surreal — will again stampede the streets of Barrington this summer as they did in 2009.
The Barrington Area United Way is planning the Barrington Roundup II public art exhibit to follow in the hoofsteps of the first event’s success three years ago.
The first Barrington Roundup marked the 50th anniversary of the Barrington Area United Way by riffing on Chicago’s Cows on Parade exhibit of 1999, using Barrington High School’s mascot — the Bronco — instead.
As with Chicago’s cow exhibit, the Barrington horses often reflected an artistic theme or their sponsorship by a local business or organization.
Information and registration forms for both sponsors and artists is available at the Barrington Area United Way website, bauw.org.
A variety of sizes and poses for the fiberglass horses is available at different sponsorship levels. A white ribbon sponsorship costs $650, yellow ribbon $1,500, red ribbon $2,500, and blue ribbon $3,500.
Artist commissions of up to $500 are available, with all work to be completed by May 14. The artwork will be displayed throughout the summer and auctioned to the highest bidders in October.
All proceeds from the auction will be used to benefit the Barrington Area United Way.
The pieces also will be in the running for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place judges’ awards and a People’s Choice award.
