Giants kicker hated football as Scottish youth

INDIANAPOLIS — New York Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes got to the Super Bowl by a haphazard route.

He was born in Scotland and hated football when his family moved to Florida. He agreed to try out as the kicker so he could hang out with high school friends.

He quickly became very good at putting the ball between the uprights and turned it into a pro career with two very notable moments. His overtime field goal in Green Bay four years ago got the Giants into the Super Bowl, where they beat the Patriots.

Tynes had another overtime field goal in San Francisco during the NFC title game that set up a rematch Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The two teams are so evenly matched that it could come down to Tynes.
