Elgin man arrested on drug, weapon charges

A 40-year-old Elgin man was charged with multiple offenses Friday after authorities say they found crack cocaine and a stolen handgun in his apartment.

Deputies from the Kane County sheriff’s office executed a search warrant at about 6 a.m. on the 400 block of Walnut Avenue in Elgin. They discovered 126 grams of crack cocaine — with a street value of approximately $5,000 — and the handgun.

Sheldon McClellan, who authorities say is a felon, was home at the time and was taken into custody. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of weapons/ammunition by a felon, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

McClellan was transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center, where he was being held awaiting bond call.
