Rep. Crespo hosts Shred Day

State Rep. Fred Crespo, a Democrat from Hoffman Estates, hosted a Community Shred Day Saturday outside his Streamwood Constituent Service Office to give local businesses and residents an opportunity to securely dispose of confidential information to help prevent identity theft. AT&T co-sponsored the Shred Day to help ensure that residents have opportunities to shred personal documents that could otherwise fall into the wrong hands.

“People can’t be too careful when it comes to personal documents they no longer need, and I’m grateful that so many people were able to come out and shred these documents to help protect themselves, their families and clients from identity theft,” Crespo said. “I am grateful to AT&T for being proactive in our community to help keep people safe.”

Shred Day gave constituents and local businesses the opportunity to dispose of confidential documents in a secure and environmentally friendly way, for free. In light of the new year, Crespo felt it offered the community a great way to clear out storage space and get rid of old, but private tax records, bills, credit cards statements and other documents. Over 100 participants also enjoyed hot cocoa, doughnuts and the chance to speak with Crespo about the upcoming legislative session.

“I want to thank Rep. Crespo and AT&T for providing this great resource to the community,” said Pete Turza of Hoffman Estates. “I had boxes of private information, but did not feel comfortable disposing them in my garbage can. Shred Day offered not only peace of mind in disposing of these documents, but an opportunity to speak with Rep. Crespo about the upcoming year.”
