“I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout law.”
From the first line of the Scout Law to weekly Scout meetings, duty to God is an essential part of the Scouting program. Each Scout is encouraged to pursue his faith, whatever denomination, and be an active participant and leader in their religious community.
“Duty to God is an integral part of the Scouting program,” said Matthew Ackerman, Scout Executive for the St. Charles based Three Fires Council. “We encourage every Scout and leader to participate in a service according to their custom.”
Scout Sunday is a yearly recognition of Scouts in their religious communities and is among the first of many events that Scouts will participate in this year. Each religious organization will recognize Scouts for their service to the community, loyalty to family and reverence to their faith and country.
Scout Sunday will be observed in places of worship throughout DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and DeKalb counties for the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America located in St. Charles.
The Boy Scouts of America designates the Sunday that falls before February 8th as Scout Sunday, which this year is Sunday, Feb. 5.
Feb. 8, 1910 was the founding of the Boy Scouts of America.
