Stolen bank card information used in Mount Prospect theft

text size: AAA
By Freida Gad

Thieves stole $7,580 from seven customers who used the ATM in the lobby at PNC Bank, 935 N. Elmhurst Road, between Dec. 26 and Jan. 16, Mount Prospect police said.

Someone posted a sign on the drive-through ATM that said the machine was out of order and customers should use the lobby ATM. Police suspect that a skimming device was attached to the lobby ATM while the bank was closed.

Bank employees did not put the out of order sign on the drive-through ATM, reports said, and did not find the sign or a skimming device.

The stolen bank card information was used between 11 a.m. Jan. 22 and 8:48 a.m. Jan. 23 at several area PNC ATMs to withdraw funds from the victims’ checking and saving accounts.
