text size: AAA
By Freida Gad

Arlington Heights police issued a citizens alert to residents after a scam artist tried to gain financial information from resident in several telephone calls between Jan. 17-19.

The person leaving the message pretended to be an officer with the Department of Crime and warned the complainant a case had been filed against her. The person urged her to return the call, and said if she refused, there would be local police at her door.

The complainant did call to confirm the calls were part of a scam and was told by an unknown male that she needed to provide her bank account and Social Security numbers to pay a $400 settlement fee. The male subject hung up when asked about details of the case.

The potential victim did not provide any of the requested information.
