Fire hits equipment room at Rolling Meadows car wash

A car wash in Rolling Meadows sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage Saturday morning when a fire broke out in its equipment room, authorities said.

The Rolling Meadows Fire Department responded at 8:11 a.m. to a call of a fire at a Marathon gas station and car wash, 4200 Kirchoff Road.

“When we got there, there was a fire in the equipment room with the electrical and the heating equipment for the car wash,” Battalion Chief Mike Ahlman said.

Firefighters arrived two minutes after receiving the call, and had the fire out by 8:30 a.m. The fire was contained to the equipment room, and no vehicles were in the car wash at the time, Ahlman said.

The cause of the fire is undetermined. The Palatine and Palatine Rural fire departments assisted Rolling Meadows with the response.
